Monifa and Wyatt’s Aspen Colorado elopement…where do I even start?! I remember first talking to Monifa and Wyatt about their Colorado elopement back at the beginning of 2020. These two, who live in Atlanta, GA, were so excited to come out to Colorado to adventure elope. Monifa lived in Colorado until she was 12, so the Rockies hold a special place for her, and the two of them were excited about coming out here to tie the knot.
Coincidentally, they had already booked an Airbnb for a small wedding back in Atlanta…literally the EXACT SAME Airbnb Ed and I had booked for our wedding a couple years back. Even crazier, same as us, they also decided to ditch their small wedding and elope to Colorado instead. When they told me their story of their change of plans, I just knew we needed to work together. Their story was so much like ours, and I knew in my heart of hearts that eloping out in the Rocky Mountains would be the perfect way for them to celebrate their love.
As with most couples getting married in 2020, COVID-19 changed their plans a bit. Colorado was on stay-at-home orders and for a second there, they didn’t think it’d be possible to travel out here at all. But as the summer approached and orders lifted, tiny elopements started to become possible again, and we got to planning. After much searching and conversations, we decided on their elopement location: one of my favorite trails near Aspen, Colorado. This trail, which sits at the Continental Divide, cuts through the rugged alpine tundra, exposing dramatic mountain peaks for miles.
It goes without saying that Monifa and Wyatt’s Aspen Colorado elopement was a true stunner. But beyond the mountain views, you can see just how happy and excited they were able to elope in Aspen. We started out the morning with a hike in the dark up to their ceremony site.

After hiking up the trail in the dark to get to their elopement location, we adventured in the mountains for a bit before Monifa and Wyatt began their Aspen Colorado elopement ceremony.
High Alpine Elopement Ceremony
Monifa and Wyatt chose to self-solemnize rather than have anyone officiate their Aspen elopement ceremony. They said their elopement vows to each other on a hiking trail up at 12,000 foot elevation.
Hiking Adventures, Picnic + Champagne Toast
After their Aspen elopement ceremony, we spend the rest of the early morning running through the mountains and enjoying a picnic and champagne toast to celebrate these two and their elopement.
Wandering Out Of Aspen And Down The Mountain Pass
After their early morning Aspen Colorado elopement ceremony, we drove down the mountain pass, stopping along the way for these two to explore the area. From running down the road to standing on the edge of a cliffside to wading into a creek and a lake, Monifa and Wyatt were down for pretty much any adventure on their elopement day.
