Chelsey and Caleb have been together for 10 years. They first met in eighth grade and fell in love. Needless to say, they’ve been inseparable ever since. I’ve witnessed many different types of love over the years from photographing elopements and small weddings, but Caleb and Chelsey’s really, truly stood out to me. Maybe it has to do with the fact that they met when they were just kids, but they’ve kept this sense of adventure in their relationship in a way that stood out during their small Wyoming wedding day.
We started their day with a ceremony by the water, southern Wyoming’s gorgeous mountains towering behind and Chelsey and Caleb’s immediate families in attendance as they shared their vows. From there, we spent the rest of their Wyoming wedding day wandering down the trails, jumping into alpine lakes, climbing rocks, and eating pizza in the mountains (the same meal they enjoyed after getting engaged in Yosemite!).
Chelsey and Caleb had their small Wyoming wedding ceremony by one of my favorite lakes in southern Wyoming. A few of their family members came up to say a few words and share their advice for Chelsey and Caleb on their new adventure and life together.
Down the road and up another hiking trail, we came across this epic little island in the middle of an alpine lake. The water looked just shallow enough that the island could be accessed by foot. So naturally, I asked Chelsey and Caleb if they were down for a dip, and they were 100% hyped about getting in the water.
This part of the day was hands-down one of my favorites from their small Wyoming wedding. There’s nothing more fun that doing something a little crazy and unconventional on your wedding day, and Chelsey and Caleb totally epitomized this.
After their time on the island, we walked down to a different part of the lake. The sun had dipped behind the mountains, and the trail had become so calm and quiet. We adventured alongside the shore and then made our way to a boulder field, where Chelsey and Caleb climbed up giant rock structures and admired the view from their perch.
An hour before night approached, we all hopped in our cars and drove up the road to one of my favorite overlooks in the area. That’s where Chelsey and Caleb shared their first dance together. Afterwards, we wrapped up their Wyoming wedding day with some celebratory pizza; Chelsey and Caleb’s favorite meal…a go-to in their household.
And I absolutely loved this idea, since swapping out cake for pizza is exactly what my husband and I did on our elopement day too. Pretty sure it’s the best way to end a wedding day.
P.S. As an adventure elopement and adventure wedding photographer, I pride myself on not just documenting your adventure elopement or small Wyoming wedding, but helping you navigate the little details too — like helping you figure out the perfect time of year for your small adventure wedding in Wyoming’s gorgeous mountains.
I’m a firm believer that your adventure elopement photographer should be so much more than that. They should be a resource and guide to you during the whole adventure elopement planning process.
