What to Look for in Winter Wedding Shawls and Wraps

When You're Planning an Adventure Elopement

When looking for winter wedding shawls or wraps, think about how much coverage you want. Do you want a more full-length shawl? Or would you prefer a wrap that drapes over your shoulders?

How cold will your winter wedding location be? The type of winter wedding shawl you choose will be highly dependent on those conditions.

How Much You Should Expect to Spend

And Where to Buy a Winter Wedding Shawl or Wrap

The more extensive the fabric on your winter wedding shawl or wrap, the more likely the price tag will be higher. For example, full length cloaks with extra warmth can cost you a few hundred dollars.

Meanwhile, more lightweight wedding shawls and wraps are typically in the $40 – $80 price range. We’ve included a wide range of winter wedding wrap options here, for every budget. These wraps are from two of our favorite retailers: Lulus and Etsy.

The Prettiest Winter Wedding Shawls

These are the winter wedding shawls and wraps we’re loving. We’ve included various levels of fabric coverage for all different types of winter conditions.

We love Lulus and are definitely guilty of spending one-too-many hours shopping for dresses on their site (psssssst…if you need help finding the perfect outfit for your engagement session, some of our fave Lulus dresses are in this guide).

But we digress. They also have some gorgeous winter wedding shawls, like this bright white fluffy one that feels like a little slice of a winter wonderland.

This winter wedding shawl is perfect if you’re eloping in a place with a very mild winter climate, given its sheer nature. We can already imagine how dreamy it’d look for a desert winter wedding in a spot like Joshua Tree or Death Valley.

This wedding shawl has a cape-like style, with a stunning sheer lace and pearls dotting it everywhere. It’s such an elegant and whimsical style, especially if you’re eloping at sunrise or sunset when the warm golden hour light can shine through.

Okay okay okay, we are having heart palpitations looking at this floor length wool boucle winter wedding shawl. It’s cloak-like shape will make you look like a total ice queen, in the best kind of way.

We love this winter wedding shawl paired with a jumpsuit or a dress. Either way, you can’t possibly go wrong. This one will also give you more coverage and protection against heavy winds, which is great if you’re eloping on a chilly and snowy day.

White Wedding Jacket Price: $137+

So while this stunning jacket technically not a winter wedding shawl or a wrap, it’s just such a pretty option that we couldn’t help but include it.

This cashmere white button down winter wedding jacket is such a classy option. We think it’d pair beautifully with a more modern and minimalistic wedding look.

Again, not technically a wedding shawl, but this white winter coat is the perfect wedding accessory for a winter wonderland ceremony.

The long sleeves will keep your arms away from the elements, especially if you’re wearing a dress or top without sleeves. You’ll want to size down on this one. Many shoppers found it runs a little big!

There’s something about black winter wedding shawls like this faux fur one that just stands out. We really love the moody statement they make and how they can contrast against white wedding clothes.

Especially on a snowy elopement day, a black wedding wrap like this one has the ability to really frame your shoulders.

The icy light bluish gray color of this winter wedding shawl is the perfect complement to a winter wedding look.

If your elopement look is all-white, we love that this wedding shawl would have a slight hint of color that’ll make it stand out amongst everything around you.

How pretty is the translucent look of this sweater style winter wedding shawl? It has a dreamy and ethereal vibe, courtesy of the hand knit structure.

This winter wedding wrap is ideal when you really want to show off the details of your dress or top underneath. It’s semi see-through design allows the little details underneath to shine. If you’re eloping in a climate where you want some coverage but nothing super warm, this shawl is the perfect option.

We really like the way this cardigan style winter wedding shawl is lined with delicate feathers that blow perfectly in the wintry wind. It adds a gorgeously dynamic look to it.

And if you, like us, have been listening to Taylor Swift’s “Cardigan” on repeat basically every day since Folklore came out (sorry not sorry), we have a feeling this wedding wrap is basically made for you.

The soft, gauzy texture of the mohair on this winter wedding wrap is truly to die for. This style of wedding shawl can be worn in a couple different ways, with the cross design either in the front or the back.

We recommend choosing the direction to wear the shawl based on the style of clothes you’re wearing on your elopement day. For example, show off an open-back moment on your elopement dress with the cross in the back.

The texture of the faux fur on this winter wedding shawl is one of the things we really love about it, especially when coupled with the varieties of brown in the wrap.

This stole would actually work really well for fall elopements, too. The hints of amber in the shawl have an autumnal vibe that’s perfect for fall mountain elopements.

If you’ve chosen an off-shoulder or strapless dress for your elopement and really want to accent your shoulders, this gauzy mohair wedding wrap with delicate lace detailing is ideal.

Given the more lightweight fabric and the cutout design of the lace, you’ll definitely want to couple this winter wedding shawl with a warmer jacket for those in-between moments on your day. But we love how uniquely whimsical this wrap feels when coupled with a strapless elopement dress.

This blush pink faux fur winter wedding wrap would couple gorgeously with a dress or top that has a statement back. Drape it over your arms for the ultimate show-stopping effect.

And Lulus manages to deliver yet again, with their affordable pricing. You can’t beat this winter wedding shawl’s $48 price tag.

The ultra light pink tone of this vegan wool wedding shawl is such a pretty touch for a winter ceremony. If you’re looking for a wrap with a bit of a feminine touch, this shawl’s a go-to.

The button-up cardigan style allows you to seal in heat in between taking photos on your elopement day, which is essential for elopements during colder seasons. And the loose sleeves allow you to wear a sleeved elopement dress comfortably underneath.

It’s easy for intense winds in the wintertime to make eloping during this season a bit more uncomfortable. Which is why we love that this winter wedding wrap incorporates a hood to provide some extra coverage and protection from the elements.

Plus, there’s something really elegant about a hooded wedding shawl or wrap. It ads a bit of mystery and intrigue, similar to the effect when wearing a veil.

This pearl-dotted knitted sweater makes for the perfect wedding wrap for an adventure elopement. It’s cinched at the waist, which gives a super flattering shape.

And the sheer material of the wrap allows whatever you’re wearing underneath to peek beautifully through.

We love the way the lace floral details on this winter wedding shawl softly fold and curve. The shawl is loose, yet ultra flattering, and we especially like how the lace allows for little pops of skin to peek through.

This cloak is one of our total favorite winter wedding shawls on this list. Being made of boucle wool with a fur-lined hood, it’s made of heavier material than many of the shawls and wedding wraps on this list. Which makes this one especially great for elopements in snowy conditions.

This lacey wedding wrap has a chunky yet lightweight design. And the silk ribbons at the wrists are the perfect form-fitting detail.

We’re picturing this wedding shawl paired with a super minimal adventure wedding dress. The contrast between a minimally-detailed modern dress fabric with this lacey wrap is just too good.

Elopements know how to keep things simple, and the same can apply to the wedding shawl you choose to wear. This shawl is particularly nice for a crisp fall elopement.

Just enough shoulder coverage to keep the shoulders cozy, without being too warm or fussy. And the ribbon closure allows for a simple bowtie and a truly classic look.

There’s something so undeniably epic about incorporating a jet black element into your wedding day look. This dark as night faux fur wedding shawl from Lulus is that perfect element.

Elopements are all about forging your own path and crafting a wedding day that feels distinctly yours. So what better way to do that than throwing tradition to the wind with a winter wedding shawl like this? And the best part is that this wrap can be worn again and again after your elopement, too.

We’re not gonna lie, the fact that pockets are left off of most wedding and elopement dresses alike is such a disservice, especially when you’re getting married in the colder months and could use a place to keep your hands warm.

This bright white faux fur winter wedding shawl delivers on the dream: a wrap with pockets. Give your fingers a break from the cold. Or store a cute pair if winter gloves in there while you’re taking sunset photos. Seriously, pockets are a total game changer for adventure weddings in the snow.

Staying warm on your elopement day doesn’t have to look boring. This sweater style wedding wrap is hands-down one of the cutest options on this list.

We love the scalloped lace detailing on the edges of the plunge neck design. It has a very elegant and handcrafted feel to it.

This handmade wool and lace wedding shawl beautifully incorporates a mix of simple/modern and detailed intricate elements. While most of the wrap is a simple ivory wool, but edges are adorned with the prettiest lace design.

This winter wedding shawl is perfect for a moody Big Sur beachside elopement or for a chilly sunrise elopement in the mountains.

The cozy off-white color of this cardigan style wool winter wedding shawl is so good. Honestly, this is an option that would be awesome for either fall or winter ceremonies.

And you can button this cardigan all the way, or show off more of your dress or top with only the top button fastened (which is our favorite way!).

There’s no denying that boucle fabric (aka fabric with a plush loop-like structure) has become a pretty hot trend, especially in people’s homes. But it has long been a classic in the fashion space, especially when you’re aiming for an ultra-cozy look.

This coat-style bell sleeve wedding shawl is one of the prettiest examples of wool boucle we’ve seen. The high neck structure of this coat helps keep in the warmth. And those dramatic bell sleeves with scalloped lace edges are what winter wedding shawl dreams are made of.

This winter coat literally looks like fresh powdery snow, and we couldn’t not love it more. The wide hood is perfect for elopements. It’s just wide enough to prevent your hair from getting messed up by a more fitted style.

And with this winter wedding shawl’s longer length, it’ll keep you nice and warm on chillier winter days. This is definitely one of those wedding coats that can be worn after the elopement day, too.

Winter elopements lend themselves beautifully to cooler and chillier colors. Which is one of the reasons we love this grey wedding shawl for winter. It has a slightly blue and purple tone to it as well, rather than just being a flat grey, which gives it the opportunity to work with so many different color palettes.

This list of winter wedding shawls would be incomplete if we didn’t also include something vibrantly colorful and festive for the holiday season! This bright red wedding wrap is sure to stand out against the snow on your elopement day to create a truly dreamy look.

A Few Must-Know Tips When Buying Winter Wedding Shawls

Weather and snow conditions vary greatly, depending on where you’ve chosen to elope. Shawls and wraps are an awesome way to give yourselves extra warmth on the elopement day, but they shouldn’t be the only warm clothing you bring with you when getting married in high elevation, snowy climates.

Layering is crucial, and you’ll want to bring things like hand + foot warmers and fleece lined leggings. And in addition to a winter wedding shawl, you’ll also likely need a coat. While you may not take photos in your winter coat, it’s important to have one to warm up in between photos. Trust us, you’ll be thankful you brought one.
