Full Coffee Shop Review of Unravel Coffee in Breckenridge, Colorado

An Honest Review of Unravel Coffee Breckenridge By Coloradans (With Photos)

An eco-conscious coffee shop with gorgeous industrial-meets-ski-town vibes and delicious brews? Yes, please. Unravel Coffee Breckenridge is hands-down my favorite coffee shop in the area, and my full review covers all the reasons this little gem is worth the stop.

Living in Colorado and working in the mountains, I spend much of my time in our mountain towns. And as a former barista, searching for the best coffee shops in the state is basically a huge passion project of mine.

For all the “just okay” cafes whose sole purpose is to cater to tourists just needing a quick and dirty caffeine fix (and these towns are seriously choc-full of them), there exist a few gems: coffee shops with both delicious coffee, a warm team, and an aesthetic that actually makes you want to stay and sip your drink in-house. And Unravel Coffee Breckenridge is 100% one of those.

In my full review, I’ll share all the things that make this coffee shop my go-to pick when in Breck, from the perspective of a former barista who knows a thing or two about a good cup of coffee. But I’ll just say this: whether you’re visiting Breckenridge on vacation or you live in the area and frequent Summit County, you’ll want to add Unravel Coffee to your itinerary.

P.S., You’ll find Unravel Coffee throughout Colorado, so if you’re not in Breckenridge, there are also shops in Winter Park, Steamboat Springs, Vail, and Aspen.

How's The Coffee at Unravel Coffee Breckenridge?

When reviewing coffee shops, consistency in drink orders is key. So when I go to any cafe, I always order the same thing: a whole milk latte. Why?

With this drink I get to test the espresso, the quality of the milk aeration, and the latte art.

Sure, I totally get that when people go to craft coffee shops, they like to order other specialty drinks too, like tea lattes, blended drinks, and seasonal offerings. But in addition to taking note of the vibes and service of a coffee shop, it’s crucial to know if the core product, the espresso itself, is actually worth raving about.

Let’s just say, Unravel Coffee in Breckenridge passes the test. I talk about this a bit later and why I love it, but they have tight control over their bean sourcing, and they roast their beans in-house.

But beyond their supply chain, the espresso shots they pull at Unravel are spot-on. They’re not over-extracted (which can create that intense bitter taste) or under-extracted (which can result in that super unpleasant sour taste that tingles your jaw). It’s just right.

And the milk aeration is on-par with other solid craft coffee shops: silky and creamy, with just the right amount of air. It’s not overly-foamy (like what you might get when ordering something like a cappuccino at Starbucks) and it’s not too flat (which happens when the milk isn’t aerated for long enough).

All of this to say, this shop pours a solid cup.

The Vibes and Design of Unravel Coffee Breckenridge

Unravel Coffee is located in the lobby of Gravity Haus Breckenridge, a ski-in/ski-out hotel with a modern outdoorsy cabin-meets-industrial vibe. And Unravel totally matches that vibe.

But we’re not talking about the typical cold industrial aesthetic you might find at a lot of other cafes. There’s something just so cozy about this coffee shop, from the super comfy lounge areas, fireplace, and inviting outdoor patio that’s perfect for enjoying summer brunch before heading out on a hike.

I especially love that there are tons of seating options. No fighting for a chair or place to meet up with friends. Unravel Coffee is the perfect meet-up spot.

I’ve included tons of photos of the coffee shop in this review, so you can get a feel for the vibes. But needless to say, Unravel Coffee truly is unlike any of the other coffee shops in Breckenridge. It has a clean, elevated and modern look that makes it an amazing lounge spot.

What We Adore

About Unravel Coffee Breckenridge

Sure the coffee is great, and so is the design. But besides that, what makes Unravel Coffee Breckenridge worth visiting? I’ll break it all down.

Unravel Coffee Is The Perfect Spot to Stop and Soak in Breckenridge

The atmosphere at Unravel Coffee Breckenridge is precisely one of the reasons I love it so much. Sure, it’s a beautiful coffee shop, but it also feels connected to the surrounding area.

There’s a huge outdoor patio space, and a whole row of clear garage doors that line up against it and open in the warmer months to connect the indoors to the outdoors. So you can sip your cup of coffee from one of the cozy seating areas in the lounge while taking in the fresh mountain air.

If you go out on the patio of Unravel Coffee, you’ll see the hustle and bustle of Breckenridge, along with views of the mountains in the distance. You’re basically in the center of it all.

And here’s the thing: at Unravel Coffee Breckenridge, they WANT you to stay around. None of that uncomfortable industrial seating you’ll find in a lot of coffee shops nowadays. From cozy couches to armchairs to padded bar seats to little seating nooks by the windows, every chair looks cozy.

At Unravel Coffee, they put pride into where they source their coffee, and it’s clear they want you to actually be able to sit in their carefully crafted and designed cafe to enjoy it.

How to Get Those Dreamy Cafe Vibes From Home

Listen, I don’t make the rules, but coffee just tastes better in a ceramic cup. And my favorite way to create coffee shop vibes at home is with my curated collection of mugs. They seriously make my mornings 10X better.

And as a mug connoisseur (ok, fine…a collector, let’s be honest), I’ve put together a curated list of the prettiest mugs from small ceramic shops and artists whose work will seriously elevate your coffee routine.

Unravel Coffee Breckenridge Sources and Roasts Their Own Beans + Follows Sustainable Practices

At Unravel Coffee Breckenridge, they roast their own beans. And on top of that, they’re extremely involved in which specific Ethiopian farms they source their coffee beans from.

In an industry that lacks a lot of transparency and is rife with human rights issues, it’s really refreshing to see a coffee shop that wants to be so involved in their supply chain. At Unravel Coffee Breckenridge, they manage that whole process.

But beyond that this coffee brand also takes environmental sustainability to the next level with their to-go cups. Paper cups are notorious for getting thrown out, and many aren’t even recyclable, even if you wanted to do it. Unravel Coffee is known for using glass jars as a much more sustainable and reusable alternative. That said, they appear to be switching to compostable paper cups. Still a much better option than your standard cup!

As someone who tries her best to drink my coffee in-house, rather than taking it to-go, I love that Unravel Coffee Breckenridge puts their sustainable approach front and center, so you can feel better about your to-go cup. This is something I’d love to see more coffee shops doing.

Unravel Coffee Breckenridge Has Solid To-Go Pastries + A House-Made Brunch Menu

If you’re looking for a quick fix before hitting the slopes, Unravel Coffee Breckenridge has your standard pastry case with the essentials. Everything from bagels to croissants to juices. They also have house-made chia seed pudding and yummy overnight oats.

If you want a dine-in experience, though, Unravel Coffee is also a great option for catching brunch in Breckenridge. There are so many delicious options on their menu. And they make a point of prioritizing organic ingredients when they can.

Unravel Coffee Has a Solid Location Near the Heart of Breckenridge

I’ll be honest: parking in Breckenridge is a real pain in the butt, especially during peak ski season and over the summer. So it’s a big perk that Unravel Coffee Breckenridge is centrally located near the heart of town, so you can easily walk to your next destination.

This is especially convenient if you’re staying at the Breckenridge Gravity Haus (the ski-in/ski-out hotel connected to Unravel Coffee). The hotel and coffee shop are just a few hundred feet from S. Main St., which, as the name implies, is the main road running through Breckenridge. This is where you’ll find access to plenty of restaurants, breweries, and the like.
