I remember when I first stumbled upon this location in the Snowy Range Mountains. I made my way up the hiking trail, over a late summer snowfield and into what could only be described as one of the most beautiful lakesides I’ve witnessed. When I saw this spot, I just knew it’d be the perfect location for Katelin and Tyler’s Wyoming elopement. As someone who lives and shoots primarily in Colorado, documenting a Snowy Range Wyoming elopement wasn’t really on my radar…that is until I witnessed these mountains. They rival some of the best in Colorado.
Originally, Katelin and Tyler had a different elopement location chosen. But after I scouted this spot in the Snowy Range, I figured I’d just show them a small gallery of images and see if maybe they’d like this spot more. We all agreed that it was just as epic as their original spot…if not more! So we made the switch and they decided to elope in Wyoming instead.
I’ll be honest. While I absolutely adore Colorado, our trails tend to get very busy. And one of the incredible things about the Snowy Range mountains is that while they certainly can be a popular spot to hike, fish, ski, and just hang out, they aren’t nearly as busy as many Colorado trails. This makes this region of Wyoming really great for couples looking for a little more privacy on their elopement day. And it goes without saying that the Snowy Range mountains themselves are just drop-dead gorgeous. The perfect backdrop for Katelin and Tyler’s Wyoming elopement, if you ask me. So excited for these two and all the new adventures married life is going to take them on!
We hiked up from the trailhead to this gorgeous spot by the lake for Katelin + Tyler’s Snowy Range Wyoming elopement ceremony. The clouds had rolled in at this point, and we even had a little light drizzle while they said their vows. A little rain at high elevation can be a pretty common occurrence in the afternoons in places like the Snowy Range mountains, but honestly I’m a sucker for some overcast weather. I think it’s absolutely gorgeous.
After they finished up their Snowy Range Wyoming elopement ceremony, we adventured down various parts of the trail and even swung by another lake on the path before a heavy storm rolled in. You can see in the last few photos some hefty storm clouds in the near distance. I’m not going to lie, those photos are quite possibly some of my favorite from the entire day.
Since the storm was fast approaching, after a few quick photos, we booked it back to the cars. Please note: it is not advised to remain outside during high alpine lightning storms. There wasn’t lightning during this elopement, and if there was, that would have been our sign to immediately seek the shelter of our cars. High alpine lightning is not something to mess around with.
P.S. As an adventure elopement and adventure wedding photographer, I pride myself on not just documenting your Snowy Range Wyoming elopement or small mountain wedding, but helping you navigate the little details as well — like helping you figure out the perfect time of year for your Wyoming elopement.
As someone who also eloped, I know firsthand how incredible the elopement experience can be, and there’s nothing I love more than seeing my couples bring their dream elopements to life, whether that’s in Wyoming or elsewhere.
