Hands down one of the best parts of getting outside and hiking for a sunrise engagement session or adventure elopement is being at peace with nature and breathing in the fresh mountain air. There’s something about sunrise: the world is quiet, the animals are slowly beginning to wake up, and the sky is performing its most magical show for any onlooker who makes the effort to get up early enough to see the show. So when I mentioned that sunrise would be the best time for day for Katie and Marcus to take their Rocky Mountain National Park engagement photos, they were game.
These two handled below freezing temps and the wind in the alpine tundra and looked too dang cute while doing it. The three of us trekked out on one of my favorite trails in Rocky Mountain National Park: a place where the sunrises couldn’t be more enchanting and the alpenglow is world class. Seriously, guys, you can’t beat the Rocky Mountain glow.
We made our way down the trail, while they shared at Pendleton blanket between them. Finally, we reached a gorgeous little alpine lake where these two spent the morning admiring the streams of light the sun made through the haze in the high country air.
At some point we all got a little too cold (freezing temps are pretty common at 12,000 feet…even in the warmer months!) and made our way down the mountain to a warmer part of the park, where we wrapped up their Rocky Mountain National Park engagement photos. We spent the rest of the morning wandering by the meadows, through the woods, and making a loop around Sprague Lake.
Literally, I cannot get over how much fun these two had hanging out by the lake: from getting on each other’s shoulders to running in between the trees to snuggling up by the cutest lakeside bridge. I could go on, but y’all will just have to see for yourselves.
