Let me just put it this way: Dark Heart Coffee Bar in Loveland, CO is basically the edgy cool girl of coffee shops. It’s quite literally unlike any other cafe I’ve visited in the state (and I’ve been all over Colorado).
I live super close to Dark Heart, so it’s quite possibly one of my most visited coffee shops on the Front Range, and as a former barista, I find myself immediately drawn to both the aesthetic and the delicious brews.
In this complete review, I’ll share everything I love about Dark Heart Coffee Bar, and the things I could see being improved upon, all from the perspective of a former barista who can tell an excellent cup of coffee from a subpar one.

How Does The Espresso At Dark Heart Coffee Stack Up?
I talk about this in all my coffee reviews, but I always make sure to order the exact same drink every time I review a cafe.
I don’t want seasonal drinks, added syrups, or any sort of frills getting in the way of the coffee itself.
I make a point of always ordering a hot latte for two key reasons. The first, is because it gives me an idea of how they pull their shots of espresso.
If it’s too under-extracted, it tends to have that sour taste that makes your jaw tingle. Too over-extracted? You get that bitter flavor many people often associate with coffee (which isn’t actually a good thing).
But a shot pulled just right? You can genuinely taste the notes in the coffee. There’s legitimate flavor there.
The second reason for the latte is it lets me assess how they aerated the milk. I don’t want anything too “foamy” and frothy. And I also don’t want anything so flat that there’s no fluff at all.
There’s this perfect in-between with a creamy yet airy consistency that’s the ideal (think velvety), and typically if the latte art looks good, it’s a good sign the milk was aerated well.
Dark Heart Coffee Bar nails the milk aeration. Perfect velvety vibes. I’ve never had a latte of theirs that wasn’t a velvet dream.
In terms of espresso, they do tend to lean a little toward the over-extracted side of the spectrum, which isn’t always my favorite. But it’s always close enough to spot-on that there isn’t too much room for complaint.
Dark Heart Coffee's Edgy, Industrial Vibe
My obsession with Dark Heart Coffee Bar absolutely started the moment I stepped into the shop and saw their edgy meets retro meets biker aesthetic.
If she was a person, Dark Heart Coffee Bar would totally be the biker chick with the leather jacket, a sleeve of carefully curated tattoos, and a pair of worn denim jeans that have seen their fair share of adventures.
The floors are a cool concrete, beautifully complementing the industrial metal ordering counter, exposed pipes on the ceiling, and glass garage door looking out onto the patio.
But warming up the space are cozy incandescent bulbs scattered throughout the cafe along with happy little green plants adorning counters, tables, and windows.
Dark Heart Coffee Bar manages to balance the cool industrial aesthetic with what you’d typically expect from a coffee shop: a warm and cozy place where you feel comfortable staying awhile or striking up a conversation with a friend.
Dark Heart Coffee Bar is arguably my favorite coffee shop in all of Loveland, but it also makes the list of my top choices in the entire state of Colorado. Here’s why.
I am one of those people who has to exist in a beautiful, inspiring space to get my best work done, so I tend to gravitate toward aesthetically unique and beautiful coffee shops. Dark Heart Coffee Bar is totally one of those, and the vibe there is a big reason I find myself coming back over and over again.
Whether it’s bar seating, their cozy leather lounge chairs, or the back room you can reserve for meetings, there are tons of options.
And the light streaming in through the windows in the morning? So good.
While Dark Heart Coffee Bar has more of an industrial vibe, I absolutely love the warmth they bring back in by adorning the patio and interior with greenery. It’s the perfect balance of cool and warm.
Let’s be real, it’s not always possible to start your day in a cafe, but I’m a big believer that there’s just something better about having your coffee in a ceramic mug. Paper cups just don’t hit the same.
When I’m wanting the coffee shop vibe at home, these are the mugs I’m dreaming about.
Dark Heart Coffee Bar has one of my favorite cafe patios, with lovely umbrella-covered tables and gorgeous plants adorning the area.
When I think of places to sit down with a good book, coffee, and pastry in hand during a summer afternoon, Dark Heart is a no-brainer.
I have to admit, Loveland has really come into its own over the past few years, and there are so many fun and eccentric local businesses.
The best part? Dark Heart Coffee Bar is really in the center of it all, just a short walk from so many great restaurants, ice creameries, and restaurants.
We can all agree that delicious food-related merch levels up any craft coffee shop, right? I love how quirky and fun the little snacks at Dark Heart are. So unique, and honestly, they’d make for the perfect gift.
About ten miles north of Dark Heart, you’ll find another one of my favorite cafes: Lima Coffee Roasters. The vibes are a 10/10.
